Butane canister blast hurts 3 men in Talisay

Sunnexdesk

AN EXPLOSION of butane canisters left three men with burns in a subdivision in Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, Cebu past 12 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2019.

They are Jimbo Gutang, 22; Mark Parba, 19; and Jeven Daño, 21.

The firefighters, led by City Fire Marshal Arra Alpajaro, rushed to Block 5, Lot 11 in Deca Homes after receiving a report about the explosion, which caused a blaze in the area.

When Alpajaro’s team arrived, the fire had been put out by the residents; the victims had been taken to the Talisay City District Hospital for treatment.

The firefighters found butane canisters and seven 50-kilogram Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders inside the house owned by a certain Clifford.

Investigators believe that Gutang, Parba and Daño had been refilling the butane canisters with LPG before the explosion happened. Alpajaro said the explosion could have been triggered by a spark.

Refilling butane canisters with LPG is deemed illegal as this does not conform to government standards. (from FMD of SuperBalita Cebu/KAL)
