THE Cebu Provincial Board (PB) on Monday, Feb. 4, authorized Gov. Hilario Davide III to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the Pollution Abatement Systems Specialists Inc. (Passi) for the hauling, treatment and disposal of 90,000 kilos of medical wastes generated by provincial and district hospitals for a period of one year. Under the approved resolution filed by PB Members Thadeo Jovito Ouano and Glenn Bercede, the Province will pay the private firm around P4.05 million for its services. “It has been declared that Passi is the bidder with the single calculated and responsive bid for the supply/provision of services of a service provider with certificate of accreditation of medical wastes from the Environmental Management Bureau,” the resolution read. Passi had been collecting the medical wastes of 16 Cebu Province-run hospitals in the past, but the firm suspended its operations from June last year to Jan. 23, 2019 after it encountered technical issues with its permit.
