THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) clamped 182 vehicles that were parked in no-parking zones from Sunday, Jan. 13, until 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14.

The most number of no-parking violators were found at the back of Cebu Technological University’s main campus on S. Osmeña Ave. near the tunnel leading to the South Road Properties.

CCTO personnel clamped 42 vehicles as they blocked the sidewalks intended for pedestrians.

Several cars were also clamped near Compaña Maritima as they blocked the flow of traffic.

Efren Navales, CCTO supervisor, said 115 of 150 vehicles were clamped during daytime, while the 35 other cars were clamped at 12:01 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14.

A motorist has to pay a P1,500 fine for his clamped vehicle.

CCTO Operations Head Francisco Ouano urged motorists not to park their vehicles in no-parking zones as they can block the pedestrians and obstruct the traffic flow.

He said they are not clamping vehicles for CCTO to increase its revenue from traffic violators.

Ouano said their intention is to make the roads safe and orderly during the Fiesta Señor and Sinulog.

The CCTO decided to designate the wide sidewalk of S. Osmeña Ave., from the corner of Palma St. toward Plaza Independencia, as a temporary parking area.

The left sidewalk of V. Sotto, from the corner of S. Osmeña Ave. up to Pier 3, was also designated as a temporary parking area. (From PAC of SuperBalita Cebu/KAL)
