Cebu police ready to face Senate probe

THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas will face the investigation in the Senate if it will push through.

Superintendent Reyman Tolentin, PRO-Central Visayas spokesperson, said the resolution filed by the senators from the minority bloc that seeks inquiry into the rash of killings and bloody police operations in Cebu cannot affect the morale of the operatives.

The operations against illegal drugs and other crimes will continue, said Tolentin.

Tolentin said they are confident that they can defend their anti-drug campaign, including the one-time big-time (OTBT) operations that killed 19 suspected drug personalities in the past three months under PRO-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas.

He said the OTBTs were legitimate, meaning the operatives defended themselves by shooting the suspects who opened fire at them first.

Tolentin said they are waiting for the directive from Camp Crame on what to do if there will be an investigation in the Senate.

On Thursday, October 11, Senators Risa Hontiveros, Francis Pangilinan, Bam Aquino, Antonio Trillanes IV, Leila de Lima and Franklin Drilon filed the resolution seeking investigation on the killings believed to be perpetrated by the police.

Last Oct. 4, five men were killed in a shooting incident in Barangay Malubog, Cebu City. Two survivors accused the police as the perpetrators.

On the same day, nine suspected pushers were killed in OTBT operations in Talisay City and Cebu City.

Sinas earlier denied the participation of the police in the Malubog carnage. (KAL)
