DR. Mary Jean Loreche, Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas chief pathologist and spokesperson, said Friday, January 22, 2021, that the region's current critical care utilization (CCU) rate is at 21.5 percent.

The CCU rate refers to the number of intensive care units (ICU), isolation beds and ventilators in use in different health and medical facilities for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients.

Loreche said of the 896 total Covid beds allocated by private hospitals in the region (794 for regular Covid beds and 102 for ICU beds), the current admission is already at 193.

Of these, 177 are from the allocation for regular beds and 16 are in the ICU.

The DOH said a CCU rate below 30 percent is still considered safe, but beyond this would already constitute a warning.
