A RESOLUTION granting the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) a class upgrade from C to B police headquarters was approved by the Mandaue City Council.

Councilor Oscar Del Castillo Jr., chairman of the Committee on Police, Fire, and Penology, announced this on Monday, November 14, 2022, saying it was approved by the Council sometime last week.

Del Castillo said the resolution will be forwarded to the MCPO, which will endorse it to the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and Philippine National Police (PNP) for final approval.

Once the MCPO class upgrade is approved and funds have been allocated, Del Castillo said the City Government plans to put up two additional police stations in Mandaue.

The police stations will be built at the entrance of the Mandaue-Consolacion boundary and in Barangay Banilad.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rudolf Oriol, MCPO deputy city director for operations and spokesperson, welcomed the approval, saying they have been waiting for it.

Earlier, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes said he hoped to expand police visibility within the city.

He said he plans to install mobile police units, particularly in the areas of Jagobiao and A.S. Fortuna St. flyovers, which he believed are strategic areas to ensure safety among tourists and the Mandauehanons.

Cortes said these areas do not have an accessible physical police station.

He said the police mobiles will be available 24/7 to attend to any possible crimes.

Cortes also mentioned that he had previous discussions with the National Police Commission regarding the upgrading of MCPO from class C to class B police station. (HIC)
