City might expropriate lots for drainage project

THE Cebu City Legal Office (CLO) is forming a team of three lawyers to look at the flooding problem in Sitio Paradise 3, Barangay Kinasang-an.

City Legal Officer Rey Gealon said the team will look into the possibility of expropriating private lots that will be affected by the drainage project that will be implemented in the area.

“The mayor has eyes set on solving the decade-long flooding problem in that part of Kinasang-an, Pardo,” said Gealon.

He said Mayor Edgardo Labella doesn’t want residents there to suffer any longer.

“We will do whatever it takes to get the job done, no matter what the cost,” he said.

Residents from Sitio Paradise 3 had appealed to barangay and city officials to address the flood problem in the area.

They said their neighborhood suffers from a high incidence of dengue and leptospirosis, which already claimed the lives of four children.

The previous administration had a plan for a drainage project, which was suspended.

The City Engineer’s Office is preparing a new Program of Works and Estimates (Powe), considering prices of materials have gone up.
