POLICE are expected to patrol the streets on Sunday midnight, Jan. 13, as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to implement an election gun ban that day.

Newly-installed Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Jerome Brillantes, who formally started work on Monday, Jan. 7, said he and other Comelec officials in Central Visayas will meet with the Police Regional Office 7 head to discuss preparations for the implementation of the election gun ban.

On his first week in Cebu, Brillantes will attend a meeting between election and police officials on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11 and 12.

The focus of the meeting will be preparations for the start of the gun ban on Jan. 13, which is also the first day of the May 2019 election period.

Brillantes temporarily replaced lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano, who was transferred to the former’s assignment in Siquijor Province for the duration of the May 2019 midterm elections.

Brillantes admitted that he is still adjusting to his life in Cebu.

He said that compared to Siquijor, he has a bigger jurisdiction to handle Cebu.

But Brillantes is positive that the local elections in Cebu will be peaceful and orderly.

“So far, elections in Cebu and Region 7 have never been that intense or violent,” Brillantes said. (FROM AZLG OF SUPERBALITA CEBU, JKV)
