FORMER Talisay City Police head Marlu Conag has been named as the new chief of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB).

Conag assumed his new post on Monday, July 1, 2019, according to Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) Director Roderick Mariano.

P/Maj. Orlando Carag Jr. replaced Conag as the Talisay City police chief.

The appointment of Conag to the PIB leadership came on the heels of Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Debold Sinas’s decision to relieve the 18 PIB operatives involved in the alleged misencounter in the mountain village of Sudlon 1, Cebu City that resulted in the death of P/Corp. Feliciano Yballe last May.

Yballe was accused of killing another police officer in Toledo City, but this was denied by Sinas.

The PIB operatives are now under investigation.

Mariano allowed Conag to compose his own team in the PIB, so the latter could work with them well.

However, Mariano said the new PIB operatives must have clean records as they will also compose the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit.

“We have to make sure that he would place the right persons in the right job,” he said.

As to Carag, Mariano told him to strengthen the fight against illegal drugs in Talisay City.

“I think he has competent officers. He can do it,” he said. (WBS)
