CEBU City will soon have dancing musical fountains.

Mayor Edgardo Labella said the fountain at the Fuente Osmeña Circle will be converted into a dancing musical fountain, while smaller ones will be put up at the Plaza Independencia.

The City Government will implement the project in coordination with the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

“This is to showcase that there is water in Cebu City,” said Labella.

He already directed MCWD officials and the City Parks and Playgrounds Commission to come up with the program of works and estimates so the City can allocate a budget for it.

MCWD Chairman Jose Daluz III said this is a way of restoring the Fuente Osmeña Circle, which is considered a city landmark.

He said the fountain will also be a tourist attraction.

The Fuente Osmeña Circle is a large roundabout with a fountain and park in the middle. The fountain was constructed in 1912 as a symbol of clean and flowing water in Cebu and in honor of the late Sergio Osmeña, the country’s fourth president.

The road around the park provides access to Osmeña Blvd., Gen. Maxilom Ave. and B. Rodriguez St.

The area is considered one of the busiest places in the city as it is surrounded by restaurants, hotels and malls.

It is also a venue for big events like concerts during the Christmas season and the Sinulog. (JJL)
