THE Department of Tourism (DOT) held its tourism industry skills program in Malapascua Island in Daanbantayan, Cebu on July 8-12, 2019.

In response to the need to empower tourism industry workers to provide quality service to visitors, the DOT has been conducting various human capability building trainings for the tourism industry stakeholders within this year.

Since its inception in 2017, a significant number of industry workers have been successfully trained in food service, front office operations, housekeeping and basic life support, among others.

The DOT’s program is in line with its “Ambisyon Natin (Our Ambition) 2040,” specifically the “Pagbabago segment” of its vision, which aims to “reduce inequality in economic development opportunities.”

The tourism industry was identified as one of the priority sectors to achieve the vision of a “relevant, inclusive and sustainable economic growth.” (S)
