A dried fish handler (kargador) in Taboan Public Market was shot dead by minors at the back of San Nicolas Barangay Hall in Cebu City on Friday evening, September 16, 2022.

The incident was reported to the Sawang Calero Police Station 6 at 9:45 p.m.

Police Staff Sergeant Ley Vincent Gonzalve, case investigator, identified the victim as Jason Allera Ababon, 35, a stay-in worker in Taboan.

Police investigation showed that the victim was dragged by the three minors towards the back of San Nicolas Barangay Hall.

Ababon, however, was able to free himself from the clutches of the suspects and run away prompting the latter to shoot him.

Ababon was hit in the head causing his instantaneous death.

The suspects fled and are now being hunted by the police.

The police are looking into revenge or personal grudge as the possible motive.

One of the residents in the area said in an interview with SunStar Cebu that the suspect had beaten somebody on Thursday evening, September 15, 2022, and the latter vowed to retaliate.

San Nicolas Barangay Captain Clifford Jude Niñal said they received information that the victim was previously imprisoned for several cases, such as using drugs, illegal possession of firearm and theft.

"Sulod gawas nang si Jason sa prisohan sir bag pana nakalaya. Grabe kawatana daw na matod pas akong mga tanod," Nińal said.
