Drug angle eyed in ex-inmate's killing

THE police are looking into drug angle as the possible motive in the killing of a former inmate in Sitio Laurente, Barangay Tejero, Cebu City early Tuesday morning, June 21, 2022.

Police Chief Master Sergeant Rainer Mahinay, chief investigator of Waterfront Police Station 3, said the victim, Kerwin Ancero Florita, 56 years old and a resident of Barangay Tejero, was formerly arrested for an illegal drug case and later released in 2018.

Florita was doing exercise outside his house around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when the gunman approached him from behind and opened fire.

Florita was hit twice in the back, with the bullets exiting in his chest and once in his right shoulder.

The suspect fled after the incident, while the victim was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center, where he was declared dead by attending physician. (BBT, TPT)
