Elderly to get ATM cards

REGISTERED senior citizens in Cebu City can withdraw their financial assistance from the City Government at automated teller machines (ATMs).

The City doesn’t want the elderly to leave their homes and be exposed to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) since they are considered a vulnerable sector.

The Department of Health-Central Visayas reported that Cebu City currently has 21 confirmed Covid-19 cases and five deaths.

Mayor Edgardo Labella has ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Services and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs to coordinate with barangay officials for the distribution of cash cards to registered senior citizens.

Labella said he has tasked City Administrator Floro Casas Jr. to coordinate with the Land Bank of the Philippines, the City’s depository bank, for the smooth distribution of the cash aid.

Once the cash cards are prepared and distributed, registered senior citizens can receive two months’ worth of financial assistance amounting to P2,000.

Casas said with the cash cards, the recipients can ask someone else to withdraw the money for them so they don’t have to go out. (PAC / JKV)
