AN EX-CONVICT was shot dead inside his house at 1:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022, in Sitio Looc, Barangay Tayud, Consolacion town in northern Cebu.

The victim, identified as Francis Rosel Cena, 23, died instantly after two unidentified men barged inside his house and shot him while he was talking on his cellphone, said Staff Sergeant Rechie Gilleran, investigator of Consolacion Police Station, in an interview with SunStar.

The gunmen fled after the incident.

Gilleran said the father of the victim saw the two unidentified men walking out of their house, but failed to identify them.

Cena was brought by the Consolacion Emergency Response team to the Eversly Child Sanitarium and General Hospital in Mandaue City but was declared dead on arrival.

Cena was previously arrested for robbery.

The police said the victim was allegedly involved in several robbery incidents in 2017 in their place and was going in and out of jail.

Gilleran suspected that the incident might have something to do with the victim's robbery case.

"Usa sa among gitan-aw nga anggulo nga basin drug related ni ang pagpatay niya kay wala man trabaho tambay ra," Gilleran said.

(One of the angles that we are being looked into is illegal drugs since the victim is jobless).

An investigation is still ongoing to identify the suspects. (GPL, GDC, TPT)
