THE former chief of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) in Cebu was killed in a gun attack Thursday evening, November 21, 2019, in front of a hotel in Sitio Molave, Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.

Responding policemen identified the victim as Police Lieutenant Colonel Joie Pacito Yape, head of the intelligence unit of Calbayog City in Samar province.

Emergency responders tried to revive him at the scene but he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

A report by Superbalita Cebu said Yape and his wife were walking towards a nearby mall when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle shot him several times before fleeing the scene.

Yape, as PIB head of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), led raids against high-profile drug suspects, such as the late Medellin mayor Ricardo Ramirez.

Ramirez was killed in his hospital room in 2017. (JKV from reports of FMD/BBT)
