City Health: Don’t just point and shoot; use scanners properly

WITH most establishments and health checkpoints using thermal scanners to check the temperature of people, a city health official is cautioning those assigned to use thermal scanners to use the equipment properly to obtain accurate results.

Daisy Villa, the Cebu City Health Officer, said there should be a one-meter distance between the person holding the thermal scanner and the one being scanned but the distance between the forehead and the device should not be more than two centimeters.

“We are advising them to do it one meter away and with an extended arm but the thermo scanner should be is one to two centimeters away from the forehead,” said Villa, who added there must be a proper calibration of the device by its supplier and its batteries must be checked regularly.

Shelbay Blanco, the head of the Department of Health 7-Health Emergency Management Services, said personnel doing the scanning must practice precautions. (WBS)
