Health official pushes prison in Cebu islet

Sunnexdesk

TO avoid congestion in jail facilities, Cebu Provincial Health Officer Rene Catan suggested to place the inmates in an islet.

Catan floated his idea during the first quarter meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) on Monday afternoon, Jan. 21. He said Cebu has 137 islets and half of these, he was told by Provincial Tourism Officer Joselito Costas, have no human inhabitants.

He said the inmates will be provided with food, water and shelter in the heavily-guarded island.

Catan said this is the only way to prevent diseases from spreading among inmates.

“Gamiton ta nang isla, daghan kaayo. Mangita lang (Let us utilize those islands. There are so many of them. Let’s look for one),” he said. (FROM SCG OF SUPERBALITA CEBU / KAL)
