Lapu-Lapu approves tricycle fare hike

THE Lapu-Lapu City Council has passed an ordinance that grants a provisional fare hike to tricycles in the city.

The City Council approved the ordinance due to the call of tricycle drivers to increase the passenger fare especially that they were only allowed to get a limited number of passengers per unit as implemented during the general community quarantine (GCQ).

Based on the approved ordinance, tricycle drivers can charge passengers up to P15 for those traveling from the city’s public market to Barangays Looc, Canjulao, Calawisan, Sitio Babag 1, Poblacion, Sitio Timpolok, Gun-ob; the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital in Basak, Pajo, Sitio Seaweeds; a portion of the Mactan Airbase and Gaisano Mactan in Brgy. Pusok.

While tricycle drivers can charge P20 for passengers going to Sitio Sulod, Brgy. Calawisan; Babag 2, the market area in Brgy. Basak; Sitio Kagudoy in Basak; and Sitio Matumbo, Brgy. Pusok from the public market in Brgy. Poblacion.

They can also charge P25 for passengers coming from the public market in Poblacion going to sitios Sudtongan and Suba Masulog, Brgy. Subabasbas; Brgy. Bankal, Pajac, Maribago, Marigondon and Agus.

Tricycle drivers plying routes in Olango Island from the Sta. Rosa wharf can start charging P15 for anyone going toward Brgy. Sta. Rosa.

Those going to Brgy. Tungasan, Talima and Caw-oy can be charged P20.

For those traveling from the Sta. Rosa Wharf to barangays Baring, Tingo, Sabang and San Vicente, they can be charged P25.

Under the ordinance, only two passengers can be accommodated per tricycle, with one passenger riding in the sidecar while the other at its extension.

Tricycle drivers were required to provide plastic barriers for their units and are required to wear face masks and gloves at all times.

Passengers are also required to wear face masks or they won’t be allowed to ride the tricycle.

Those caught not following this precautions will be fined with a P500 penalty for the first offense, a 30-day suspension of the franchise for the second offense and revocation of the franchise for the third and final offense. (GCM/JKV)
