‘Live’ Stations of the Cross on Holy Week

AS A unique offering to the Cebuano community and a first in the history of the Casa Gorordo Museum in Cebu City, a live sculpture interpretation of the Passion of Christ will be staged on Holy Week.

The presentation which will depict the 14 Stations of the Cross, is currently on its final stages of rehearsals.

Performers belonging to local theater group SafeSpace started preparations last January in hopes of inspiring a meaningful Holy Week celebration and sincere reflections on Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross.

The living tableau is a collaboration between Casa Gorordo Museum of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. and Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.

“Since it is our 40th anniversary, we want to offer a more dynamic and artistic way of devotion to the Cebuanos,” said Michael Sta. Maria, Casa Gorordo partnership and portfolio officer.

The museum’s anniversary is in December.

Along with the live sculpture performance, Casa Gorordo will retain its Semana Santa house tradition on Holy Wednesday with its centuries-old carrozas.

The image of Santa Veronica and the Segunda Caida tableau will be transported by the museum’s two carrozas during a foot procession along Cebu City streets.

Meanwhile, the live sculpture interpretation performance will be staged at the open area fronting the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral from 7 to 9 p.m. on Holy Wednesday, April 5.

The performance is open to the public.
