A SEPTUAGENARIAN is in critical condition after he was struck by a V-Hire while crossing a road in Barangay Don Pedro, Bogo City in northern Cebu at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Leonardo Elorde, a 72-year-old resident of the barangay, suffered head and body injuries.

The V-Hire’s driver was identified as Henry Rosas, a 45-year-old resident of Barangay Talisay in the neighboring town of Daanbantayan.

According to Master Sergeant George Ocena, traffic investigator of the Bogo City Police Station, the V-Hire was coming from Cebu City and was ferrying passengers to Daanbantayan when the accident.

Based on his initial investigation, the victim was walking by the side of the road when he suddenly crossed the road right in the path of the V-Hire. The impact threw him several meters.

Elorde was then rushed to a hospital in the city.

Ocena said it was possible that the victim wanted to buy something across the road, adding that several vendors have set up shop in the area to cater to residents who attend the Misa de Gallo.

Ocena said they have detained Rosas while waiting for Elorde’s family to decide whether to file charges against him. (GPL, PJB)
