Newborn found in Barili market

A NEWBORN was found left on a table inside a public market in Barangay Poblacion, Barili.

The baby boy, who was described to be in good health, was found at around 8:35 in the evening on Saturday, September 26.

Two residents of Barangay Gunting, Darwin Porlacen and Marvin Gimena found the newborn crying on the table in the public market.

The infant was still wet when found, which led the police to believe that the baby was a newborn.

In an interview with Superbalita Cebu, Police Staff Sergeant Mark Anthony Fat of Barili Police Station said Porlacen and Gimena were quick to alert rescuers and the police upon finding the baby.

The baby was immediately brought to Barili District Hospital and is now safe under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

According to Fat, there is footage from the CCTV camera where a woman is seen leaving the child on the table. However, the video is blurry and the woman’s face is unrecognizable.

For now, the intelligence units and investigators are trying to get additional CCTV footage from other establishments in the vicinity.

"Wa pa gyud namo masubay, Sir, kinsa ning inahana, kay diri lang sa Poblacion, daghang mga buntis. Among gisusi ang ubang barangay, gawas sa CCTV camera footage basin mailhan ni siya,” said Fat.

They believe the mother is just a resident of the area, however, there are no known witnesses of the incident as of now. GPL with CBQ
