No monopoly for ride-hailing services in PH: LTFRB

THE sale of Uber’s Southeast Asian business to its Singapore-based rival Grab will not create a monopoly because another Transport Network Company (TNC), Uhop, is expanding in the same territory, a government official said yesterday.

Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 said it is also possible that Uber and Grab will continue to compete with each other even with the new setup.

Uhop, he explained, is already accredited by LTFRB and it’s a matter of expanding its operations to compete with Grab and Uber.

“In fact, the (LTFRB) Board may accredit other TNCs. There are other applicants.” (EOB)
