FORMER Cebu City councilor Jocelyn Pesquera has resigned from her post as chairman of the executive committee of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI).

Pesquera’s “irrevocable resignation,” came a day after Vice Mayor Michael Rama also resigned as SFI chairman.

In a letter dated Oct. 30, 2019 to SFI president Pericles Dakay, Pesquera said she decided to quit her post due to events that prevented her from performing her functions as SFI execom chairman.

“Though we started with a high note and with high expectations; however, there were events that hindered the performance of the functions that were mandated on my position,”

she said.

She said she will continue to assist the organizing committee of Sinulog 2020 “in some other capacity.” Former Cebu City councilor Pastor Alcover posted Wednesday on his Facebook account a photo of Pesquera’s letter.

With Pesquera’s resignation, only Dakay, City Councilor Dave Tumulak, executive director Jojo Labella, Cinbeth Orellano, Belinda Navasques and Neil Odchige remain with the SFI Execom.

On Oct. 29, Rama quit as SFI chairman, which he held for 14 years.

Rama’s resignation came after Mayor Edgardo Labella created in August 2019 the Cebu City Sinulog Governing Board to oversee the Sinulog 2020 activities. (JKV)
