Police note smooth traffic in Cebu amid GCQ

TRAFFIC has been smooth and orderly because of how disciplined Cebuanos are, so said Police Regional Office 7 Director Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro during his rounds in Cebu City.

Ferro also praised mall management and security personnel for strictly implementing social distancing and wearing of masks. In addition, there are also markings for people in line to maintain social distancing. A thermal gun is also used to check the temperature of everyone entering the mall.

Ferro said, “Actually, I was highly impressed by the Cebuano cooperation because if you go to the malls, there are markings everywhere. There’s only one way in and one way out. It’s nice that they are also conscious.”

The general also observed that even though some private vehicles are already allowed to travel, he and his team have not encountered problems with regard to traffic on the main roads of Cebu City so far.

This goes to show that the public has been following the guidelines of the general community quarantine. Ferro believes that if this good behavior continues, Cebuanos will be able to overcome the threat of Covid-19.

He said, “There is light to moderate traffic, but I haven’t seen heavy traffic. So far, we hope to have a more manageable traffic condition.”

He also reminded the public about the “Libreng Sakay” program, which started on March 17, 2020, the first day of the enhanced community quarantine.

Ferro said those who do not have vehicles and are waiting out on the streets can avail themselves of the free transportation to get to their destinations. (AYB, CBQ)
