Police to check winning candidates’ background

Sunnexdesk

POLICE Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Debold Sinas said they will monitor the newly elected politicians to check if they are involved in illegal activities.

The initial information that he received showed that most of the winning candidates in the cities, municipalities and provinces in Central Visayas are mostly new personalities.

The PRO 7, he said, will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies in checking the profiles of the winners.

Sinas said there were no reports that drug money was used in buying votes.

He claimed the politicians had a hard time distributing their money intended for buying votes last Monday, May 13, because the PRO 7 placed several checkpoints all over the region.

When asked about outgoing Daanbantayan Mayor Vicente Loot and San Fernando Vice Mayor Fralz Sabalones, Sinas said the officials’ retirement from public service does not erase their names from the narco-list.

Both Loot and Sabalones did not run in the midterm elections.

They were named drug protectors by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Meanwhile, Sinas said he respects newly elected officials, who will seek new police chiefs.

Sinas, however, said they have guidelines to follow, one of which is that a police official cannot go back to the town he had served in the past as its chief. (From AYB of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL, WBS)
