Public warned vs persons selling 'Brilliant Uncirculated P20 coins'

THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) warned the public against the sale of "Brilliant Uncirculated P20 coins."

In a statement on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, the central bank advised the public that it has not issued Brilliant Uncirculated 20-Piso coins.

"The BSP reminds the public to beware of online sellers advertising Brilliant Uncirculated 20-Piso coins for sale," it said.

Screenshots from online shopping platforms like Lazada and Shopee showed the coins being sold at prices that range from P100 to P149. It was advertised as a "collectible." The products have been flagged down and removed from both sites.

"As of end-August 2020, 2.09 million pieces of 20-Piso New Generation Currency (NGC) coins amounting to P41.85 million are in circulation," the BSP said.

"These 20-Piso NGC coins are legal tender and may be used as payment for goods and services at face value," it added. (JOB)
