THE remains of the police officer who was killed in an alleged "misencounter" with members of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) in Barangay Sudlon 1, Cebu City were cremated on Saturday, May 4.

The remains of Police Corporal Feliciano Yballe Jr. was cremated at the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City at around 3 p.m.

Police Major Chuck Barandog, commander of the Cebu Mobile Company Force (CMCF), led the 21-gun salute outside the funeral homes around 2:45 p.m.

Yballe was killed in a “misencounter” with members of the PIB in Barangay Sudlon I, Cebu City in the early hours of Wednesday, May 1.

Barandog said that after Yballe's remains are cremated, the wake will continue overnight.

Yballe's remains will then be brought to an undisclosed cemetery in Toledo City at around 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 5.

When asked about the development of Yballe's case, Barandog declined to comment, saying they were not the ones investigating the case.

SunStar Cebu also asked Barandog if he knew what the PIB wanted to ask Yballe when they went to his house but the police officer begged off from answering.

"We are still in mourning," Barandog added.

Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde earlier said he ordered Police Regional Office (PRO) Central Visayas director Debold Sinas to relieve the 18 PIB operatives, including Police Captain Alejandro Batobalonos, who took part in the hot pursuit operations that led to the killing of Yballe.
