SM SUPERMALLS nationwide observed National Flag Day on May 28, 2019.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines have urged government offices, business establishments, schools, private homes and other institutions to display the Philippine flag.

The National Flag Day commemorates the day when the Philippine flag was first raised after the victory in the Battle of Alapan in 1898, during which the Filipino revolutionaries led by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo defeated Spanish Empire’s troops and recaptured Cavite province.

SM City Cebu, SM Seaside City Cebu and SM City Consolacion held a simultaneous flag-raising ceremony at 8 a.m. Joining the SM officials were representatives from the local government units, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, mall affiliates and tenants.

For many years, SM Supermalls have been engaging customers in celebrations, including the National Flag Day, as a contribution to the community where an SM mall operates.
