A 19-YEAR-OLD man ended up in jail after he stole chewing gums from a grocery store where he worked in Barangay Poblacion, Carcar City, southern Cebu around 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

Chuwee Quijano Gabrillo, 19, single, a utility worker of a grocery store who hails from Sitio Tal-ut, Barangay Valencia, was turned over by the establishment’s security guard to Carcar City Police Station.

Lieutenant Colonel Ardioleto Cabagnot, chief of Carcar City Police Station, said in an interview with SunStar Cebu that the suspect stole six pieces of chewing gum worth P84.

But the chewing gums were discovered from his possession when the security guard frisked him as he was getting ready to leave for home.

Cabagnot said the suspect was freed last Monday following discussions with the store’s management.

"Kunsomo ra daw niya ba samtang manglimpiyo magkalingaw pag-usap-usap sa chewing gum," Cabagnot added.

(He claimed it was his supply which he would consume while cleaning).

According to Cabagnot, the suspect might have thought he would not be detected because the items were small and concealable in his pocket. (GPL, TPT)
