Sugarcane cargo crushes cutter during road mishap

A 20-YEAR-OLD man was declared on arrival when he was brought to the hospital after he was crushed by a truckload of sugarcane on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020.

The incident happened at 9:30 a.m. in Sitio Kadoldolan, Barangay Lujo in the northeastern town of Borbon.

The victim was identified as Wilfredo Booc Jr., a sugarcane cutter from Sitio Bakyo, Barangay Claveria in the same town.

Aside from Booc, six companions were also injured. They were at the back of the truck when it suddenly fell on its side.

According to the Borbon Police Station, the truck, which was driven by Edmund Flores, a 40-year-old resident of Barangay Sagay, Borbon, was transporting sugarcane that had just been harvested.

Their initial investigation showed that the incident was caused by overloading.

Flores is currently detained in the Borbon Police Station stockade while awaiting charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, physical injuries and damage to property.
