AFTER the sandbar and dive sites in Sumilon Island, Oslob Mayor Jose Tumulak Jr. announced that Tumalog Falls, another tourist site in the town, will be closed for three days starting tomorrow for a cleanup drive.

The Municipal Government, though, will open tomorrow the sandbar and dive sites in Sumilon Island after these were cleaned for one week.

In his meeting with tourism stakeholders last Thursday, the mayor said it was agreed that no tourists will be allowed at the sandbar and dive sites in Sumilon every third Wednesday of the month to give way to a regular cleanup drive.

For the Tumalog Falls, Tumulak said that it will only be closed for three days since the area that needs to be cleaned is smaller.

Tumalog Falls is located in Barangays Tumalog and Luka.

Tumulak believes that the cleanup drive in the area will be fast, especially if the habal-habal drivers who earn a living ferrying tourists to and from the falls, will help cleaning up the site.

“Akong gibutang og three days kay lisod naman kaayo moingon ta og usa lang ka adlaw unya pun-an na pud og laing adlaw, mahinayak ang mga turista nga moadto unya wa diay operation didto so ato na lang gyud gi-three days,” he said in an interview with Superbalita Cebu yesterday.

The Municipal Government has put up signs in other tourist spots in Osclob such as the whale shark watching in Barangay Tan-awaon so tourists will know about the three-day closure of the Tumalog Falls.

This is not the first time that the falls will be temporarily closed to the public.

The site was closed earlier this year for half a day because of heavy rains.

Last year, although the falls was not closed, the town did not collect entrance fees from tourists since the dry season affected its water flow.
