THE Cebuano Studies Center (CSC) of University of San Carlos (USC) will conduct the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Visayas policy forum in Cebu City on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019.

The CSC collaborated with the NRCP and the Department of Science and Technology 7 for the event, which carries the theme “Valuing Music Heritage as Learning, Entertaining and Sustainable Resources.”

It will start at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. The forum’s venue is the Safad Theatre of USC Talamban Campus.

The policy forum intends to present key findings of the NRCP-funded research of the CSC entitled, “A Comprehensive Compilation of Extant Cebuano Songs with Music Transcription and Analysis,” which was implemented in Cebu, Negros Oriental and Bohol.

The project aimed to preserve the songs that are still sung before they are completely erased from the Visayan collective memory. The research and acquisition of extant Cebuano songs allow the preservation of this important cultural heritage, thereby also contributing to the study and preservation of Philippine music.

Various stakeholders from the academe, media, music organizations, cultural offices, local and provincial government units as well as other government agencies have been invited to the forum.

The significance of the Cebuano music project is vital to the sustainable cultural development of not only Cebu and the Visayas but of the entire country. (S)
