THE Zonta Club Childlink High School Cebu recently bagged second place in the 2017 Emma L. Conlon Service Award that recognizes Z and Golden Z clubs whose projects and programs best express the ideals of Zonta International.

This six-year-old Z Club has once again proven itself, with its third win since 2015.

Among the number of campaigns the club has launched, it was their anti-teenage pregnancy advocacy called, “Young Love Can Wait” that eventually brought home the silver.

In celebration of the World Teenage Day last year, Z Club Childlink Learning Center visited a school for an information drive on issues, such as how peer pressure may lead to teenage pregnancy, its effects and how this can be prevented. An open forum was then held after the activity.

The “Young Love Can Wait” campaign was initiated because of the reported increase rate in teenage pregnancy in Cebu, said Dr. Maria Theresa Fong-Tio, Childlink director.

Other programs of the school’s Z Club include #SayNoToCyberbullying where the group travelled to Hong Kong and worked with three Z clubs there to address the growing problem of cyberbullying.

They also tackled the issue on “Kid Tutoring: Trash Into Treasure” where in which the club members taught waste management incorporated the concept into a lesson about bullying through singing, role playing, games and art.

Zonta International has always lived by the creed, “Empowering Women through Service and Advocacy.”
