Tell it to SunStar: An unjust law

CHITO E. GERMINO

THE bible is supposed to be an identifiable book. But there are few exceptions. One exception is the unfair law.

There is a law on premarital sex. If a woman is accused by her husband that she was no longer a virgin during their marriage and she could not produce the blood-stained wedding sheet, she would be stoned to death. No questions asked. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21).

This is very unjust and unfair to the woman. She should at least be asked who seduced or raped her. So that the male culprit could also be stoned to death.

There’s a possibility she was seduced or raped by her own: father, brother, male relative, male neighbor, friend or stranger.

In premarital sex, not only women should be punished. The male partner should also be punished. It takes two to tango. This was a clear case of sexual discrimination against the female population.
