Tell it to SunStar: Getting the right guy

Virgilio Almendras

BY THE looks of it, authorities might have finally gotten the right suspect in the gruesome murder of 16-year-old Christine Lee Silawan whose mutilated, half-naked body was found in a remote area in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City last March 11.

Does that mean Jonas Martel Bueno, a native of Danao City, Cebu who recently migrated to Davao City, is no longer a person of interest or a suspect? Granted, he is not absolved from his alleged involvement in the killing of a farmer in Danao City last January.

The National Bureau of Investigation 7 has custody of the girl’s ex-boyfriend who was the last person seen with her on the night she disappeared, based on footage from security cameras.

Maybe with this latest develpment, the victim’s family can finally move on.

But what will happen to the authorities who insisted that Bueno was involved? What about the person who gave an online news site in Manila Bueno’s picture and fed it information that he was the killer? What about them?
