10,000 athletes join City olympics

AROUND 10,000 student-athletes will compete in various sports events for this year’s 29th Cebu City Olympics.

The School Governance and Operations Division chief Joelyza M. Arcilla said the sporting event aims to develop potential athletes in Cebu City.

“This is not only to prepare our athletes for the Cviraa (Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association), but to prepare our athletes in their lifelong journey to become champions,” said Arcilla at Tuesday’s press conference at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The medalists in the Cebu City Olympics will represent Cebu City Niños in Cviraa.

She also encouraged the tournament managers and event coordinators to give their full commitment to the sporting meet.

The Cebu City Olympics will take place on Nov. 12 to 18, 2019.

The sports to be contested are archery, arnis, athletics, baseball, basketball, badminton, billiard, boxing, chess, dancesports, cultural, gymnastics, football, futsal, karatedo, scrabble, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, wrestling, wushu and pencak silat.

The parade of student-athletes will start at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

The sporting venues are at Fort San Pedro Children’s Park, Zapatera Elementary School, CCSC, Labangon Elementary School, Cebu Eastern College gym, Cebu City Sports Institute, Robinsons Galleria, Tisa II Elementary School, Don Bosco gym, SM City Seaside, Gothong National High School, City Green, University of Cebu, Oprra Elementary School and Tejero Elementary School.
