Asian leg moved to 2021

THE remaining Round 2 fixtures of the Fifa World Cup Quatar 2022 Asia Qualifiers will be pushed back to 2021 due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

The Round 2 matches scheduled in June and March were initially postponed to October and November but Fifa, the international governing body of football, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have decided to reschedule it next year, according to the Philippine Football Federation.

The Phillippines still has three remaining matches in Round 2 against China, Guam and Maldives.

The Philippines is in Group A with Syria, China, Guam and Maldives.

The Phillpines is at third place with seven points from two wins, a draw and two losses. Syria is at the top with 15 points from five wins, while China is second with seven points from two wins, a draw and a loss. Maldives is fourth with six points, while Guam is at the bottom with no points.

The Philippines is in a tight spot and must finish either as a group winner or one of the four best-ranked runners-up for it to advance to Round 3. (EKA)
