THE University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers grabbed the top spot in Bracket B with an 86-62 win over the Abellana National School (ANS) during the final day of eliminations in the SM-NBTC League Cebu City qualifier at the Cebu City Sports Institute on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020.

The win forged a triple-tie for first place in the Bracket B as UV, Ateneo de Cebu and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) all ended up with identical 2-1 win-loss records. However, after organizers computed the point differential of the teams involved, UV came out on top with a +21 while Ateneo de Cebu nabbed the final semifinals ticket after comping up with a -3 quotient.

USJ-R was the odd one out with an -18.

In the other game held on Sunday, the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors bowed out of the competition but not before routing the Pajo National High School, 103-74. USC ended the tournament with an even 2-2 record in the Bracket A.

The semifinal picture on Feb. 15 will see bracket A topnotcher Don Bosco facing off against Ateneo de Cebu, while UV battles Tough Gear-Southwestern University-Phinma.

The winners of these games will advance to the finals. More importantly, the two finalists will get spots in the 36-team field in the Chooks-to-Go SM-National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) National High School Championships next month at the Mall of Asia Arena. (JNP)
