Jonas N. Panerio

THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers leaned on a balanced attack to vanquish the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers, 74-69, to take third place honors in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) high school basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Tuesday, November 19, 2019.

USPF dominated the first three periods and held a 65-49 lead heading to the final period of action.

UV tried to rally in the fourth period where they outscored the Baby Panthers, 20-6, but they ultimately fell short.

No player managed to reach double-figures in scoring for USPF but six different players scored at least six markers. Jack “Baby Shaq” Suello and Elijah Singson had eight points each for USPF while prolific guards Kyle Ochavo and Christopher Isabelo added seven each.

Meanwhile, UV got 20 points from big man Dave Basalo and 15 from versatile forward Samuel Melicor. Zylle Cabellon added 10.

The Baby Lancers’ top gun, Albert Sacayan, had another subpar outing as he finished with just two points. (SunStar Cebu)
