THE long winning streak of defending champion Talisay City Aquastars came to an end after Carcar City handed the upset axe in the 3rd season of the Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Minglanilla Gym on Sunday, March 24.

Carcar City pulled off a pulsating 85-84 win to put an end to the Talisay City’s unbeaten run in the Under-21 grassroots basketball tournament organized by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission.

Talisay City, who won all their 14 games last season, played Carcar City without their top key player and last year’s Mythical 5 member Kendrick Abarquez, who was out of town for the 2019 NBTC National Finals.

Ronald Delfino poured in 28 points to lead Carcar City to their third win in five outings. Rey Joseph Alfeche added 14, Dilcer Gaviola chipped in 11 and Dave Abella handed 10.

Keaton Taburnal finished with 23 points and Jay Deiparine contributed 17 for the Aquastars, who remains on top of the District 1 standing, despite the loss, with 3-1 (win-loss) record.

In the other First District action, home team Minglanilla Archangels defeated City of Naga Electrifiers, 93-82. Minglanilla improved to an even 2-2 record, while the City of Naga dropped to a 3-2 slate. (RSC)
