ARCHITECTS and engineers will once again take to the court to show off their hardcourt skills as they compete in the Architects + Engineers Basketball Club 5th Corporate Cup which tips off at the Benedicto College gym.

From its humble beginnings, the league, which brings together different architects and engineers from the region, has grown to 10 teams.

The competing teams are EGS, EVC Consultancy and Engineering, Buildrite, Phoenix Building Systems, LM Paragsa, Reliabuild, Cebu Home & Builders, Island Premium Paints, Architectural Interior Solutions and Cebu Metallic Epoxy.

“We want to bring under one setting both engineers and architects under one roof. We want to develop sportsmanship and camaraderie among the professionals competing here,” said AEBC president, engineer Edgar Watin who presided over the launch of the event at the Neighborhood Café in Banawa. “We look forward to making it bigger and better and making it more fun for everyone involved.”

Teams will play a single round-robin with the top four advancing to the quarterfinals armed with a twice-to-beat advantage against the lower seeds. (JNP)

WHERE’S THE WATER? Water is sparse at the Jaclupan wellfield in Talisay City in this photo provided by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) on Friday, April 26, 2024. Completed in 1998, MCWD’s Jaclupan facility, officially known as the Mananga Phase I Project, catches, impounds and pumps out around 30,000 cubic meters of water per day under normal circumstances. However, on Friday, MCWD spokesperson Minerva Gerodias said the facility’s daily production had plummeted to 8,000 cubic meters per day, or just about a quarter of its normal capacity, as Cebu grapples with the effects of the drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to persist until the end of May. The facility supplies water to consumers in Talisay City and Cebu City. /
