Diagan challenges Ngiabphukhiaw for WBC ABC strap

GAREN Diagan attempts to bring home a belt back to the Philippines as he challenges World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council (ABC) light flyweight king Danai Ngiabphukhiaw on July 30, 2022 at the Suanlum Night Bazaar in Bangkok, Thailand.

Diagan is eager to return to his winning ways after losing to April Jay Abne in their rematch last March 19 in Cebu. He was knocked out by Abne in five rounds.

The 26-year-old Diagan beat Abne via a first round technical knockout last year also in Cebu. Diagan has a knack for defeating young unbeaten prospects as he gave Abne, Arvin Magramo and Jake Amparo their first career defeat.

The 22-year-old Ngiabphukhiaw is a one-time world title challenger. He fought WBC minimumweight champion Panya Pradabsri and lost via a lopsided unanimous decision last year. He bounced back with a unanimous decision victory over Suriya Kraimanee and won the vacant WBC ABC belt with a fourth round knockout of Vijes Oak last April 30.

Diagan is 8-2 with four knockouts, while Ngiabphukhiaw is 11-3 with six knockouts.
