The Far Eastern University Tamaraws picked up their first win of the 2022 Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup after defeating the San Sebastian Stags, 62-55, on Wednesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

The Tamaraws set the tone early, leading 19-1 after the first canto and led by as much as 24 points. San Sebastian was almost scoreless in the opening period before Dylan Garcia split his free throws to finally put them on the board. They, however, still couldn’t buy a basket from the field until Garcia hit a short stab at the 6:44 mark of the second frame.

By then, FEU was up 20 and would keep their double-digit lead until the fourth quarter, when Rommel Calahat's inside basket pushed the Golden Stags to within three, 51-54, with 52.7 seconds left.

Cebuano guard Royce Alforque answered for the Tamaraws as his layup with 32.4 ticks granted his side the edge they would keep until the final buzzer.

Alforque wound up with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Patrick Sleat chimed in 13 markers, four boards, and three assists of his own. Gonzales also had four assists to his name before fouling out in the middle of the final frame.

In day’s first game, Jielo Razon’s first and only make proved to be the difference-maker as it lifted the University of Perpetual Help past the Emilio Aguinaldo College, 66-63.

Razon had missed all eight of his prior attempts but was still confident enough to rise over Kriss Gurtiza to drill the game-winner.
