Sunnexdesk

FILIPINO-Hawaiian prospect Arnold Dinong kept his unbeaten streak alive with a unanimous decision over youngster Brandon Cruz last July 27 at the Omega Products International in Corona, California.

The 26-year-old got the nod of all three judges with scores of 58-56, 59-55 and 59-55.

Dinong, born in Honolulu to Filipino parents, improved to 7-0 with a knockout, while the 21-year-old Cruz dropped his second straight contest and is now 6-2 with four knockouts. Dinong, who’s now based in Daly City, California, is trained by retired Filipino-American fighter Bruno Escalante, who is originally from Sibonga, Cebu.

Dinong is the fifth Filipino fighter to see action since the return of boxing amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He’s also just the third Filipino to win after the boxing lull, joining “Magic” Mike Plania and Reymond Yanong in the winners’ circle. (EKA)
