COMING back from a long layoff, former Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super bantamweight champion Roli Gasca showed no signs of ring rust as he dominated 23-year-old Japanese prospect Shuma Sugawara, winning by unanimous decision.

Gasca banked on his vast boxing experience and his skills to win with scores of 80-73, 79-73 and 78-74.

“I can still box,” said Gasca, who’s coming off a 17-month hiatus. “I still have a lot left in me. I just need to train hard because my body is my investment.”

Gasca improved to 25-8-1 with eight knockouts, Sugawara dropped to 6-2 with four knockouts. Gasca feels that he’s back, and with just a few more fights, he thinks he is ready for at least a regional title fight.

“I still don’t know what’s next for me. From what I’ve heard, I’m going to fight a No. 5 ranked OPBF fighter from Nagoya in July. But that’s not yet sure. I’ll wait. What I want is to be a champion again,” said Gasca. (EKA)
