Jr. players clash in monthly tourney

THE Cebu Executive and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) young woodpushers will clash anew for the Age Group Monthly Qualifying Chess Tournament at the J Centre Mall in Mandaue City tomorrow.

The chess wizards will battle for the Under-20, 16-Under and 12-Under titles for the Month of June and the slot for the Cepca Age-Group Finals set next year.

The tournament, in partnership with J Center Mall, aims to develop and discover young Cebuano chess players. The organizers will shell out cash prizes to the monthly winners.

The Top 4 in the 20-Under will win P1,500, P1,000, P600 and P400, while P1,000, P700, P500 and P300 for the Top 4 in the 16-Under and 12-Under divisions.

The daylong tournament will use the 7-round Swiss format with 30 minutes time control. The registration fee is at P200 for the 20-Under and P150 each for the 16-Under and 12-Under.

The players who are already qualified to the Finals are Christian Pondoyo, Adrian Basilgo, and Jethro Ysmael Caparino in the 20-Under; Arje Villarin, Aldritz Pondoyo and Reishi Boy Polan in the 16-Under; and Aaron Resma, Jervy Villarin and Lynell Henri Jumao-as in the 12-Under. (RSC)
