Mandaue City, Consolacion in Gov’s Cup quarters

MANDAUE City and Consolacion Sarok Weavers escaped a three-way tie in the 6th District to finally complete the quarterfinals cast of the 2019 Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament.

Mandaue City threaded the needle to make it to the quarterfinals, beating Consolacion on the latter’s home floor, 76-65, that forced a three-way tie in the team standings on Sunday, April 7.

Mandaue City, Consolacion and Cordova ended the eliminations with identical 2-2 (win-loss) cards.

After the organizers computed the quotient after the game, it turned out that Mandaue City had the highest quotient with 1.120 followed by Consolacion’s 0.959, while Cordova had 0.935 and was eliminated.

In the single round-robin quarterfinals, Mandaue City will be in Bracket A with Danao City, Medellin, Balamban, Argao, Samboan and Dumanjug.

Defending champion Talisay City leads Bracket B together with Tuburan, Sogod, Minglanilla, Alegria, Tabuelan and Consolacion.

The teams in the quarterfinals are the top two contenders of their respective brackets after the elimination round.

Meanwhile, Mandaue City and Consolacion were playing for the district championship as of press time at the Mandaue City Cultural & Sports Complex. (RSC)
