IN A feat unheard of in modern Cebu basketball history, former Far Eastern University and Southwestern University star Monbert Arong scored an incredible 109 points in the Sure Cleaning Solutions-Hogs 151-126 win over the Chameleons in the Elite Basketball Cebu Season 18 on Saturday, May 14, at the Casals Gym.

It was a breathtaking performance that obliterated the previous single-game scoring record of this league held by ex-University of San Carlos standout Jabby Bautista of 70 points.

Arong, though, did more than just score as he completed a rare triple-double in the game as he also grabbed a whopping 23 rebounds and dished out 11 assists to go with three steals and a block in a performance that will be remembered for many years to come.

The victory also pushed the Hogs to the top of the standings at 5-1, while the Chameleons fell to 1-5.

In the gameday’s other match, the Filipino Homes-Vipers stopped the Raptors five-game winning streak with a 100-95 victory. Ironically, it was former USC big man Mark Encarnado that led the way in stopping the Raptors — a team composed of former Warriors stars — as he tallied a huge double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds to go with four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.

The Vipers picked up their second victory in five games while the Raptors dropped to 5-2.
