Palaro gold medalists Aranas, Sumalinog face off in Villamor Boxing

JEMUEL Aranas and Khyl Sumalinog turn from Palarong Pambansa teammates to adversaries as they headline Villamor Boxing Gym’s amatuer boxing show “Battle of Gold Medalists” on March 11, at the Villamor Boxing Gym in Mandaue City.

Aranas, who fights out of Napo, Carcar City, and Aranas, who trains out of the famed Noy Pacing Flores Boxing Gym, were both in the Cebu Province Team in last year’s Palarong Pambansa VisMin Cup.

Aranas and Sumalinog also gave Cebu Province gold medals after dominating their respective weight categories.

Aranas defeated Davao City’s Noven King Espina on points in the finals of the Youth Boys bantamweight division. Sumalinog, in the meantime, Sumalinog won School Boys super flyweight title by defeating Negros Occidental’s Jerome Lopez also on points.

Aranas and Sumalinog will be fighting in the 26-kg weight class.

In the undercard, Regino Esparcia of Samboan takes on Cebu City’s Aaron Karl Jimenez; Noeh Dahili of Samboan locks horns with James Andaya of the Sarok Boxing Gym; Mandaue City’s Carl Jan Simbajon faces off with Gerald Villarube of SarokBoxing Gym; Dumaguete City’s Carl Penedo is up against Rodolf Medalla of Sarok Boxing Gym; and Renzel Cordova of Mandaue City squares off with Cebu City’s Joven Jay Bengil.

Also in the undercard, Lapu-Lapu City’s Shallom Dela Cruz clashes with Sarok Boxing Gym’s Gian Casto; Dave Camillo of Lapu-Lapu City slugs it out with Carcar City’s Jhamel Aras; Vince Emman Suson of Mandaue City exchanges blows with Sarok Boxing Gym’s Rodel Tillor; Cyril Jade Limotan of Mandaue City trades leathers with Cebu City’s Deor Devila; John Mierk Camillo of Lapu-Lapu City is fighting Sarok Boxing Gym’s Niño Taragosa; and Mandaue City’s Justine Inocian opens up the show against Lester Tagalog of Sarok Boxing Gym.

The monthly event is part of famed boxing coach Edito Villamor and Money Punch Promotions’ amateur boxing program.
